Regional Round of the National Schools' Tournament

The Regional Round of the National Schools' Tournament was held on Saturday 30th January 2010 at Wickersley School and Sports College. Despite the EXCEEDINGLY cold weather, the sky was blue, it was sunny , the courts were excellent and so was the netball!

Thanks to on site help and preparation from Rebecca Podlaski at Wickersley School and the South Yorkshire committee, the day went extremely well with exciting results.

In the Under-19 section, play was disrupted somewhat by the very late withdrawal of Longcroft School but the games were well contested with the Grammar School at Leeds winning the section and St Aidan's CE High School, Harrogate finishing as runners- up.

The Under-16 section saw the closest and cruelest of finishes with the top 3 places being decided on Goal Average. Ashville College, Harrogate emerged the winners with Wakefield Girls' High School as runners-up and St Aidan's being nudged in to third place.

The Under-14 section had a clear winner in the Grammar School at Leeds with Bradford Grammar finishing as runners-up.

We were pleased to welcome the Regional Chair - Pam Hoyle - to present the trophies and certificates and badges and warmest thanks go to Gordon Padley MBE for his role as Tournament Referee. Thanks go to all who contributed to an excellent day.

The winners and runners-up in each section now represent the Yorkshire Region in the National Schools' Finals to be held at Roedean School, Brighton on Saturday 20th March 2010.

Good luck to all players and coaches

Christine Stephen
